Today travel and tourism are major parts of people’s lives round the world. The urge to travel is as old as civilization itself, with far away places with strange sounding names luring travellers with promises of enchantment, excitement, diverse forms of __________, and tantalizing new kinds of food. But while it was once an uncertain and __________ event, it has now become a planned and __________ adventure that has been revolutionized by vast improvements in transportation, computer technology, and __________ of international communication. Even so the traveller’s problems have essentially remained the same, lying with where to go, how to get there, where to stay, where to eat, and what to see when one arrives.
The modern travel industry accounts for a massive percentage of the money spent in a nation’s commerce, both internally with __________ tourism and that between different countries. At all levels tourism is organized to meet traveller’s concerns in a variety of ways: through travel agents and tour companies, transport companies, hotel __________ systems, local sources of general __________, and local or national tourism boards.
In such an environment many countries and localities have become heavily __________ on tourism for income, and as a result the __________ has become increasingly intense. The mass of information available to satisfy the traveller’s curiosity is also virtually unlimited. In addition to that found on the internet and advertised by governmental departments, the travel companies themselves publish many __________ and brochures. And there are thousands of travel books available on every place a tourist might wish to visit.
